Personality: If there ever were a character that had the power of Heart, it is Steven Universe. Full of jokes, smiles, and affection for just about every person he meets, he has a sweet and caring disposition that has a tendency to win over even the hardest of hearts. He is still very much a child at age eleven, full of the curiousity and uncertainty that comes with youth, but he is also going through a period of rapid development by the necessity of the circumstances he's been born into. He's just a kid, but he's also the reincarnation of the Crystal Gem's former leader, and perhaps the only person capable of filling the hole her absence has left in their lives. He bears the responsibility gracefully, but sometimes at personal cost - he holds his duties to the Earth and to his family above his own well being, and he's spent more time questioning his self worth than any child should have to.
That isn't to say that his cheerful disposition is anything close to an act. He is very genuinely filled with joy for the small things in life, and with hope for other people. It's just that sometimes his desire to remain happy and moving forward blinds him to what's going on around him. He sometimes misses signs of other people's distress while keeping up his own optimistic momentum, and though he will try to correct his mistakes when he realizes, he can be conflict avoidant to a fault. Though he's been getting better at this as he grows older and more assertive, he has difficulty telling people no, especially when they are insisting that their demands are for the best. He often gets put on a pedestal or sheltered by other people, and he has difficulty getting them to stop, if only because he is inclined to trust that his family knows what they're doing even if they don't. He's in the process of learning that his guardians aren't perfect, and while it's not without hitches, he's adapting. Even if that just makes him more and more inclined to believe that its his responsibility to protect them emotionally at all costs.
Though he's definitely a deep kid when it comes down to it, he is also very much what it says on the tin. He's an extremely gifted musician even at such a young age, and has a natural flare for showmanship. He's also pretty damn self confident for someone in their preteens - he may have his areas of self doubt, but when it comes to his people and performance skills he very much believes in himself. He is adventurous, enthusiastic, and very comfortable in his own skin. He doesn't give much thought to traditional gender roles, either, as evidenced by how willing and eager he was to put on makeup and a dress and sing in front of the whole town. He loves pretty and cute things, enjoys playing around with clothing and fashion, and isn't afraid at all to tell everyone when he likes something. Like most of his emotions, he wears who he is on his sleeve.
The fact that his mother had to die for him to be created haunts him, even if it's in subtle ways. It comes out in the form of the occasional flare ups of an inferiority complex, and anxieties over whether or not he'll ever live up to her example. Agitating matters is him gradually learning more about his guardian's interior lives, and specifically how many of them are still in deep mourning over the loss of her. Feeling like you have to justify your own existence is a terrible place to be, and though he tries, he's confessed to believing the other Gems may blame him for her absence. He is also pretty confused about the fact that, in a way, him and his mom are intrinsically the same person.
☆INTERSTELLAR
Choice Instrument: Lead, Guitar, Synth, Piano
Rockstar Persona: Steven "Tiger" Universe is a thirteen year old prodigy musician from Americana. Born as the son of a famous rock artist, Tiger's mom died during childbirth, leaving him alone in the care of his dad who was less than attentive and more than a little irresponsible. Having grown up in the shadow of his father's legacy, Tiger has been aggressively cultivating his own musical career to allow him to stand out as his own person. Though seen as a teen heart throb by the masses and an icon of youthful rebellion, behind stage he actually has quite a chip on his shoulder, having come to resent adults and anyone trying to exert parental control over him. Fortunately for him, one can become functionally emancipated at age 13 in Americana.
Despite his talent and a acute sense of stage presence, Tiger's self confidence offstage often just manifests as being self centered and entitled. Having been brought up to rely on no one but himself, he can be rude and prone to testing people's limits with pranks and stereotypical diva arrogance. He is perhaps the ultimate teenager, which is maybe why other teenagers like him so much. He lets just enough of that damaged inner life through in his PR that he attracts massive amount of fans by allowing boys and girls all over to imagine that they specifically could be the one to heal his wounded heart. He is unapologetically pleased with his own appearance and is frequently caught preening. He is also very picky about who he will let touch his makeup, wardrobe, and hair, as these are things he has a lot of opinions about. He takes being a musician very seriously.
Ideal CR: Other young people, people he could have rivalries or begrudging sibling like attachments to. People who can put up with him being a douche long enough to realize he is a sweet child trapped inside of the body and mind of a douche.
