No I have a song problem.

[Link shows up outside Steven's window only a few minutes later, basically just the time it took for him to fly from his Bavan faerie ring to Steven's house. He perches on the outside of the house, and knocks with his right hand, his left tightly clutched around his ocarina.

He's holding it close to his chest and the deep frown on his face shows his unease clearly.]

[Steven is sort of expecting the direction Link will come from this time - Link's habit of appearing suddenly has been noted. He's ready for when the faerie arrives, and quickly opens the window so that he can come inside.]

A song problem??

[Is he trying to compose something? Steven's guitar is laid out on his bed and waiting for whatever the emergency is - he tuned it while Link was on the way.]

[Link nods rapidly, antennae fluttering with the motion. He's begun turning the instrument over and over in his hands and won't make eye contact.]

When you first got here I taught you a song. It was- It. [His eyes blink then squeeze shut, and he practically winces in concentration. He should remember this song. He should not have forgotten this song.] -It's bright and quick, and makes things feel....green.

[It's the best he can do to describe it, and he opens his eyes with a sigh, finally looking up to Steven, hoping with all his might that he sees recognition there.]

[His ears lift up attentively. He definitely knows the one that Link means! It had been sort of a special moment.]

You mean Saria's song, right? Are you having trouble playing it?

[A rush of relief washes over his face when he hears the name and his antennae prick to attention.]

Yes! Yes. Please I- [He swallows against a lump of anxiety and guilt in his throat, but pushes forward.] -I don't remember it.

[Steven looks...surprised. After all, it had seemed like a song that was really important to Link...had something happened?]

You don't? Any of it?

[His ears perk up with concern.]

[He shakes his head, head drooping to look at the floor.]

After that...alleyway place, it was just gone.

[He could remember Saria of course, but her music was silent in his memories. The Lost Woods, Darunia's crazed dancing, and the Forest Temple were now all eerily quiet when he thought back to them.]

[Oh....

Mostly what Steven remembers about the alleyway place and Link is that he totally ended up eating his corpse while super not remembering who Link was in the first place? Like, considering that Steven had amnesia when he came back...]

Oh geez...I couldn't remember anything for a while after I came back from that place! It's probably because of those dog guys...Maybe it just hasn't come back yet.

Well I- [ -died as soon as I got there Mayday mayday rephrase, don't tell Steven about dying.] wasn't there for very long. And I didn't forget anything else...

[But how would he know? Saria was really important to him, so that's why he knew something about her was missing, but what if there's more he doesn't even know he forgot? His face droops with sudden worry, and he looks up at Steven.]

Did I teach you any other songs? Is there more stuff I don't remember?

[His voice is rising in pitch, some of the earlier panic starting to come back.]

[The only way Link could have left was by death, as far as Steven knows, but he's not going to drag him into talking about it. Whatever. It's fine.]

I don't think so! That one was kind of special.

[He reaches over to his guitar.]

I'll show you, okay?

[Link takes a quick deep breath to calm himself down, then nods. He brings his ocarina to his lips and waits, eyes trained intently on Steven's guitar.]
