[This time he does touch her skin, cautious and gentle. They're scars he realizes dimly. He's seen her in a tanktop before, and she didn't have these.

He can imagine how this happened.]

Yeah...they're scars. They don't hurt...?

Scars? [She's confused. She doesn't know how that could even be a thing. That was one of the few things she had going for her. Her skin had always been p. much flawless.]

But I never hurt my back.

[He didn't think she had. This is way too much for a little accent. He is quite for a moment, and then asks:]

Did...did you...those guys...?

Those guys? [She doesn't understand. There's a lot of guys. She can't think of being hurt by anyone...

But the guys in the mask.] I played a duet with someone.

Yeah...

[He trails off uncertainly, unsure how much to say. He looks down at the bed.]

That's...that's how I got this.

[He tugs up his shirt just a little - enough to see his gem.]

And I think it's how I got my hair... and my eyes. [She frowns, looking at the gem.]

Does it hurt?

[He shakes his head.]

No...it feels really...normal? Like it fits right in there, and...and like it should be, I guess.

I think those same guys are giving us stuff we're supposed to have.

Supposed to have? [Kido blinks once or twice, lifting her hand to touch over her shoulder and feel for the burns herself.

It would make sense. Genos said it too. That's how his eyes were supposed to be...]

Then where'd they go?

I dunno.

[He feels and sounds shy about it. At this point, the immediate shock over the scars has passed - she's not in pain, and so it's easier to calm down about it.]

It's like...something weird happened, don't you think? To us.

It's like we just don't remember. Like...like my dad.

Your dad? [She's not sure it's a safe topic to breach, considering what she knows about his "dad." But she'll try?]

Yeah...

[He stares into the darkness between them.]

I...I hate the dad I remember. But...sometimes I remember him being different. Like he was always someone else, who actually loved me.

It doesn't make any sense but...I just feel like it's real. I don't know how.

[She thinks about the things she remembers sometimes. Ayano and the boys. Kenjirou.

She closes her eyes and turns back to him.]

It's...kind of weird...

[He's further along this train of thought that he's really admitted to a lot of people, but it isn't like he doesn't trust Kido deeply already. It's just taken him a long time to verbally accept it himself.]

I remember him being really nice, and funny, and smart about stuff...and we lived in a van near the beach together. I...I remember loving him a lot.

[She takes a moment like she's thinking about it and--]

Sounds way more like you'd take after a guy like that. It'd make sense to love somebody like that.

Yeah...

[He trails off, unsure of how much to say. Eventually, though...]

He's one of us? [She looks a little surprised!]

[He's quiet for a moment, too reluctant to spit it out, until...]

Greg? [Yeah that's not what she expected.] He's... young.

[He doesn't really have an explanation for that, and so he pauses in a sort of dumbfounded manner.]

I don't really get it either.

Have you talked to him about it?

Yeah. He doesn't know how it could be true, either. But...we both remember all the same stuff. He...feels the same way about me.

[She smiles at that. It's a genuine, warm smile.]

Greg's a good guy. If he's really your dad... I think it's good for you both.

[He smiles a little too, though it's still a little awkward and unsure.]

Yeah...I think so, too.

I just wish...that I understood how it could be real. How he can be my dad while still being what he's like now...

Well... you said this is stuff we're supposed to have, right? So I never had scars before, and my hair used to be brown. And these eyes changed a bunch about me.

Maybe it's like that.

[He has to think about that, too - it's complicated, to be sure.]

So you mean...maybe he's supposed to be my dad, but...for some reason he wasn't, at first? But now he is again...?
